Labor Force
Almost 365,000 people make up the labor force in Livingston Parish and the surrounding area. They are passionate, committed people with a wide range of experiences and backgrounds. Our labor force is well-educated, trained in numerous disciplines, and remarkably affordable.
- The bulk of our current workforce is divided between retail trade (16.3%), construction (10.5%), manufacturing (9.6%), accommodations/food services (9.3%), and healthcare (8.2%), all greater percentages than the Baton Rouge MSA and Louisiana, with the exception of healthcare.
- Wage rates in most industries fall below the national average.
- According to the 2010 U.S. Census, 62% of the population is working age, 18-64 years old

Incumbent Worker Training Program (IWTP)
Louisiana’s Incumbent Worker Training Program (IWTP) is a partnership between Louisiana Department of Labor (LDOL), business and industry and a training provider, such as Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC). The IWTP program is funded by a portion of Unemployment Insurance (UI) tax
contributions dedicated solely for customized training. The IWTP is designed to benefit business and industry by assisting in the skill development of existing employees and thereby increasing employee productivity and the growth of the company.

Literacy and Technology Center
The Livingston Parish Literacy and Technology Center’s coursework prepares graduates to work in the parish’s businesses and will also customize job training. In addition, there are over 120 training courses offered by the Baton Rouge Community College in areas such as accounting/bookkeeping, food service, professional development, construction, human resources, and much more.
